China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) is the large state-owned enterprise under the direct management of the central government. Historically, CNNC successfully developed the atomic bomb, hydrogen bomb and nuclear submarines and built the first nuclear plant in the main land of China. Nuclear Plant

CNNC achieved the historic breakthrough of nuclear power in mainland China by building up three nuclear power bases,namely,Qinshan NPP in Zhejiang,Daya bay NPP in Guangdong and Tianwan NPP in Jiangsu.There are currently 14 nuclear power units in operation with a total installed capacity of 11750 MWe.


CNNC is the central investor of all operating nuclear power plants in China,the main boby of the development of nuclear power construction technology,the primary force of nuclear power designing and the important service provider of nuclear power operation technology.

CNNC has the capacity for independent design,construction,operation and management of nuclear power stations of 300 MWe,600MWe and 1000 MWe.

Nuclear Geology: Continuous breakthrough on uranium prospecting and exploration.

Bureau of Geology, CNNC with a team of capable, efficiency uranium prospecting professional is “National team” or “major force” for uranium prospecting and exploration in China. Several large and super-large uranium resource bases have been localized in the northern China while the important breakthrough has been made in the southern China.

CNNC has strong innovation ability, and won the first prize of the National Sci-tech Advancement Award in 2007. It is carrying out uranium prospecting and exploration in Niger, Mongolia and Namibia.

Uranium Mining& Metallurgy: The production capacity of natural uranium has been significantly enhanced.

Technologies of conventional milling, heap leaching and in situ leaching are widely adopted in uranium mining and metallurgy. As a result, the production capacity has been significantly enhanced and the production of natural uranium has increased year by year.Through various channels such as domestic mining, overseas development and direct procurement from the international market, the national supply of natural uranium can sufficiently meet the needs of rapid development of nuclear power.

With active implementation of the Go Globe strategy, several uranium cooperative projects have been signed with Niger, Kazakhstan and other countries, with outstanding achievements being made in overseas uranium resources exploration.

Fuel Element Fabrication: Exclusive Supplier of Nuclear Fuel in Mainland China.

Uranium conversion, uranium enrichment and other nuclear fuel processing capabilities continue to rise. The quality of nuclear fuel elements has reached the international advanced level and high-quality nuclear fuels are supplied for all the nuclear power plants in operation in mainland China. The fabrication of AP1000 nuclear fuel elements of Generation III technology has been fully launched.

Nuclear Technology Application

CNNC has greatly sharpened its competitive edges in the fields of isotope and related products, irradiation processing and services and ray application instrumentation and equipment and fostered a group of key high-tech enterprises, achieving outstanding economic benefits.

CNNC isotope products account for a vast majority of the domestic market share with its radiopharmaceuticals and radioactive sources taking up more than 70% of the market.

Its Explosive Monitoring System provides a solution to the world’s problem in explosive security check and is one of the most advanced and practical explosive monitoring technologies in the world. CNNC was the supplier of 332 sets of explosive monitoring systems and radioactive material inspection systems, which were successfully applied at all the venues of Beijing Olympic Games.

The self-shielding irradiation device for sterilizing mails can kill anthrax and other dangerous bacteria and has been applied in the key sectors in the nation.

Significant progress has been made in a number of key projects such as PHWR reactor for Cobalt-60 production, high-power irradiation accelerators and nuclear sea water desalination.


The keystone laboratory of uranium extraction and milling of nuclear industry

Beijing Research Institute of chemical Engineering and Metallurgy (BRICEM), founded in 1958, not only is a comprehensive research institute engaged in research and development of natural uranium chemistry, but also is a basement of technical support for uranium materials supply on self-dependence. Over 50 years, the institute provided various technical processing of uranium ore and suited techniques, equipment, instrumentation and separate materials on construction, operation and technical reconstruction of uranium hydrometallurgical plants. Equipped with advanced facilities, BRICEM places its emphasis on the development and application of hydrometallurgy of non-ferrous metals, covering the professional fields of chemical engineering, metallurgy, organic materials, autocontrol and instrumentation, physical and chemical analyzing and testing, computer application and environmental protect. On these bases, the keystone laboratory of uranium extraction and milling of nuclear industry established in 1999, and put in operation passed check and accept by the China National Nuclear Corporation.

The laboratory of Torus experimental techniques, CNNC

Southwestern Institute of Physics (SWIP) of CNNC is a main research organization for controlled nuclear fusion technology. Since founding in 1965, SWIP has been getting a series of well-known achievements in the area of controlled nuclear fusion research. In order to continuously tail after the development of nuclear fusion technology worldwide, the institute begun to build a laboratory of Tokamak experimental technique in 1995, and it was completed and passed the check and accept in 1997.

This laboratory is a stress laboratory of CNNC. It equipped with the large Tokamak experimental device for controlled nuclear fusion research—the China Huanliu No. 1 (HL-1M) and the new-generation Tokamak experimental device–the China Huanliu No.2 A (HL-2A). The laboratory has gained a lot of achievements in controlled nuclear fusion and plasma physics research by utilizing these advanced devices. It possesses of strong ability of plasma diagnosis technique, advanced data gathering and processing technique, plasma two-level heating and wave driving.

The laboratory is opened to both Chinese and foreign scientists, and willing to work out important contribution for realizing the ideality of nuclear fusion energy to service human soon.

The nuclear industry stress laboratory of remote sensing information and image analysis technique

Beijing Geological Research Institute, CNNC, established in 1958, is one of the pioneer organizations putting in practice of remote sensing. Through over 20 years development, the institute began to build the nuclear industry stress laboratory of remote sensing information and image analysis technique based on it’s center of air-borne survey and remote sensing research. This laboratory completed and passed check and accept in 1997.

In the basic point of combining air-borne and spaceflight survey, the stress laboratory selected a front theme of modern remote sensing technique—the research and application of high resolving power and quantification remote sensing technique. It mainly develops the techniques of light aircraft photographical image spectrum measure, processing and analysis of high spectrum resolving power remote sensing image, synthesis analysis of image information and identification of multi-parameter model.

This laboratory has conducted extensive technical exchanges and co-operation worldwide, often sent researchers to attend international academic exchange meeting. Entrusted by IAEA, it held technical training of remote sensing and multi-source information for developing countries. It was in charge of IAEA’s research tasks of remote sensing information processing and remote sensing uranium exploration with international co-operation.

The laboratory set image spectrum and image radar—the two front international themes of remote sensing as it’s own main research direction. One the one hand, it continuously expends the areas of research and application. on the other hand, it concentrates it’s main energy on light aircraft photographical image spectrum measure system, processing and analysis technique of high spectrum resolving power remote sensing image, multi-dimensional synthesis analysis of image information in order to give a good service for national economic development.

The stress laboratory of radiant environment simulation, CNNC

Located in China Institute for Radiation Protection, the stress laboratory of radiant environment simulation, CNNC constructed and put into operation checked and accepted by CNNC in 1998.

The laboratory is composed of three parts, i.e. the wind tunnel simulation laboratory for atmosphere boundary layer, the water circumstance (include the earth’s surface water and underground water) simulation laboratory and the radiation zoology laboratory.

The laboratory mainly engaged in simulation research of radioactive contaminations transference rule in environmental medium. The laboratory implements the management mechanism of open, fluxion, competition and collaboration, keeps extensive co-operation and exchange both home and abroad, enhances training for youth. It established an academic committee.

CNNC carries out extensive international cooperation in nuclear power, nuclear fuels and nuclear technology applications and has establishd science and technology exchanges and economic and trading relations with over 40 countries and regions including Russia, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Cannada, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Jordan, Niger, Algeria, Namibia and Australia, etc.
